Additional Language Information:
The volunteers that are present each week varies, but we typically have at least a few volunteers that can translate for Spanish-speaking clients. We also have volunteers that can speak other languages, but there is no guarantee that we will have a volunteer who can translate on any given week.

Tuesday: 6:15 P.M.-9:00 P.M.
*We typically are closed during the Winter Academic Break for UC Berkeley (typically the last two weeks of December and first two weeks of January).

Policies/Procedures:

Anyone may receive services from our clinic. We open our doors at 6:15 P.M., but clients typically line-up outside the gym (on Haste St.) prior to this time. When the doors open, clients sit-down for our intake process. Intake starts at 6:30 P.M., and it is during this time that clients sign up for services. Some services are first-come, first-serve while others are lottery based. Check our website page for details.

We do not charge for services, so insurance/coverage is not needed to receive services at our clinic.

Cost/Fees:

All services are provided free of charge.

Appointment Availability:

There is no appointment system for services at our clinic. Clients sign up for services that night during intake. Some services, however, are located off-site and clients can sign up for these appointments during intake.

Dental Care, Dental Screenings & Cleaning, Doctor or clinic, Flu Shot, Optometry, Physical Exams, Primary Care, TB Tests, Vision Testing

Notes:

Suitcase general clinic targets homeless and low-income populations in Berkeley.

Every week, a UCSF Medical Student and attending physician are available for medical examinations, diagnoses, prescriptions, physicals, and other services. STD/STI Testing, Mental Health, and lab testing such as blood cultures, urinalysis, etc. are not offered. Optometry services are offered weekly. Dental services are offered two to three times per month. Please see this website for further information on services. Not all services are offered every night, please check the calendar to see what will be offered on any given night.

Other services include: footwashing, haircutting, Tuina (a form of Chinese massage), massage, chiropractic, acupuncture, health education and supplies (toothbrushes, shampoo, clothes donations, etc), discussion forum, occasional dinners, computers/television, bagels/coffee/tea. Not all services are offered every week; check our calendars page on our website or call our voicemail for an updated list of weekly services.

The clinic is staffed by undergraduate volunteers from UC Berkeley, with services run by professional volunteers and others run by undergraduates.
