Medi-Cal

What is Medi-Cal?  Who does it cover?

Medi-Cal is a health insurance program run by the state and federal government that primarily covers low-income children, parents, persons with disabilities, and seniors.

How do I apply for Medi-Cal for myself or my children?

To be screened and apply for Medi-Cal, you can either:

  1. Contact a clinic in Alameda County, where you can be screened and apply for Medi-Cal, along with other health coverage programs
  2. Find out if you are potentially eligible for Medi-Cal and apply for benefits at Benefits Calwin.
  3. Contact Alameda County Social Services Agency directly to apply for Medi-Cal:

Do I have a choice in the type of Medi-Cal I receive?

Yes.

If your child—or you and your child— are enrolled in Medi-Cal, you can choose between two health plans: Alameda Alliance for Health or Blue Cross.

Benefits of a health plan include: assistance finding a Medi-Cal provider, care coordination, translation services, and transportation services.  If you would like more information, contact Alameda Alliance for Health or Blue Cross.
