Each week, achealthcare.org provides assistance to thousands of uninsured residents that are looking for health services. The website was created by a collaboration of safety net health providers. It is currently being maintained by Alameda County Health Care Services agency, and a workgroup of the original partners still meet on a regular basis to discuss content changes.
In 2009, safety net partners conducted a baseline assessment of the uninsured in Alameda County. In the process of writing the report, it was discovered that there was no comprehensive, consumer-friendly online resource that provided information to Alameda County residents about health care and health insurance options.
In 2010, staff from the community health centers, the public health department, the local Medi-Cal managed care plan, and 211 met to develop content for a web resource. In 2011, achealthcare.org was launched.
